Science Sets Sail (02-10/08/2017)

The most unusual setting for me to discuss science yet!
On invitation of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg I could swap the lab (in my everyday life I am postdoc at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology) with the baltic sea for 8 days. In Tallinn, Estonia I boarded the three-mast schooner Thor Heyerdahl, aptly named after the Norwegian explorer, on leg 3 of its Science Sets Sail journey

Tallinn (01/08/2017)

Pleasant evening stroll through Tallinn before I will board the sailing ship Thor Heyerdahl tomorrow on leg 3 of its Science Sets Sail journey from Tallinn to Gdansk
Looking forward!

Vesterålen (27-30/07/2017)

Henningsvær (24-26/07/2017)

Back in Paradise(t)! Trad & mulitpitch climbing in Paradiset and Pianokrakken and a stroll to Festvågtinden next to Henningsvær, Lofoten

Further north (23-31/07/2017)

Since we were already a couple of hours north of Trondheim and plans are highly overrated: driving further north.
In return we got 10 days with awesome weather that made up for the shitty summer we had so far!

Vefsna Elvefestival (20-23/07/2017)

Highly recommendable kayak festival in Nord-Norge with cool location, nice people and good kayaking from technical to big water. It's a shame we took hardly any pictures from the rivers since they are truly beautiful.

Das Postschiff

Vehicle upgrade.

Kaldklova (10/07/2017)

Only in Norway - no problem to start on a multipitch climb at 9pm.

Rainbow (04/07/2017)

I am afraid the summer got stuck somewhere in April this year.
Rainbow shot from my window at 10:30pm!

Piepmatz (01/07/2017)

Natural selection. Those stupid birds just do not learn that perhaps our chimney is not the very best spot to build their nest. Already last year we had to rescue a fledgling sitting inside our Jotul oven. This year again a fledgling fell in the chimney but did not make it in the oven. After sitting at the bottom of the chimney for a night and calling for help, our landlord was kind enough to find the chimney opening and rescue it. The parents came to take care immediately after it was released in the garden.
